Could you go on with your higher education without aid from this charitable trust?
Although Feould probably go on with my higher education without aid from this charitable trust, not
receiving aid would make it an extremely difficult task.
Can your parents assist you in college expenses? If not, why?
Yes, but assistance is very limited because I only have one employed parent, and I have two younger
siblings at home. The majority of the payments I have to come up with myself.

Myer & Lois Franklin Scholarship Application Page 4PERSONAL ESSAY
We expect there will be a number of applicants for these scholarships. Please briefly explain why this
scholarship should be awarded to you, taking into account your goals and ambitions. You may attach a
separate sheet if needed.
I would like the committee to know about my future goals and what drives me, and a little bit about
my accomplishments throughout high school. I believe by painting this picture, that you will find me to be
a good candidate for this wonderful scholarship.
About 6 years ago my Grandma was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), a disease in which
nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord are damaged. Soon after diagnosis, my Grandma began to be unable
to have control of her legs and lower half of the body. Recently, the side affects of the MS began moving to
her upper body and into the arms and hands, causing my Grandma to be unable to feed herself or do
anything from the neck down by herself. This huge situation in my life has caused me to want to pursue a
career in the medical field of Physical Therapy to be able to help people like my Grandma. My overall goal
in college is to earn my doctorate degree in Physical Therapy. With contributions from this scholarship, this
goal that I have set for myself will become much more achievable,
Additionally, a large motivator for me to continue my education is that I will be a first generation
college student. To me, that means more than just someone that is attending college. It means that I am the
one that is representing my family. I will be the first to go out and expand into deeper education, entering a
new level of job security that only I will be able to reach. This in turn will help me to help out my family,
not only now, but for generations to come as I set the precedent of furthering our family’s educational
lineage.
Finally, alittle bit about my accomplishments in high school that will aid the committee in knowing
that | am a hard working, committed individual. During my freshman year of high school, T was a member
of the FFA Greenhand Conduct of Meetings team that took first place at Districts and Regionals. I
continued working hard into my Sophomore year both in academics and extracurriculars, and I received
my Varsity letter for baseball. In March of my Junior year, I was chosen as Student of the Month by my
Principal for being a leader and a committed student. This was exemplified my senior year when I was
elected as the Executive Treasurer of the Student Council for the 2014-2015 school year. While on student
council, I was assigned to take on a task to raise $2000 for a 4 year old boy with an inoperable brain tumor,
so he could continue with his chemo treatments. Within a week, I was able to surpass my goal and raise
$3500 for the little boy and his family. In the Fall of 2014, 1 was chosen to play as a part of the Calvin
College Honor Band with other students chosen from around the state of Michigan. I plan on making many
more accomplishments before the end of my senior year.
In closing my drive to become a Physical Therapist, my motivation to become the first in my family
to graduate from college, and my accomplishments throughout my high school career would make me an
excellent candidate for The Myer & Lois Franklin Charitable Fund Scholarship.
