Exploring my Roots
In an effort to display the roots of my family, a firsthand account of my knowledge. My
family keeps poor records of our roots, but there are fairly accurate records of our country of
origin and the last three generations. The first generation, which consisted of my grandfather's
father and mother, the second generation, which consisted of my father’s father and mother, and
the final generation before me, my father and mother.

My great grandfather was named Vernon Walter Hunt. He married Audrey Louise
Overcash. Vernon and his wife had two children named Walter Austin Hunt, and Vernon
Richard Hunt, Veron Walter’s primary occupation was a truck driver and he transported some

of the longest trailers at the time for the company he worked for. Audrey was an upholsterer and
she would put the cushions on chairs for about, {2 hours a day six days a week. They lived in aHunt 2
city called Thomasville, NC for the majority of their lives, and that is where their sons grew up

Vernon Richard.{September 13, 1946yhaving grew up in Thomasville, met his wife at
one of his rival football games, and have been together ever since. His wife’s name is Janet Ruth
Bruton Hunt (August 25, 1949), Bruton as a maiden name. His primary occupation is in
management of an industrial bedding and upholstery company. Janet’s held an occupation as a
financial advisor at a hospital, and both are retired (f) Hunt}. They had two children named
Richard Daniel Hunt (November 13, 1967) and Matthew Lee Hunt (June 29, 1974), Vernon
Richard had a rather hard life growing up (7. Hun.
As an adolescent he lost his left hand. The way he lost his hand was purely by accident,
| While exploring his yard and house he found what he thought was firecrackers. When he woke
” up in the hospital he only had one hand, and was told what he had found was dynamite. When he
\ te ‘the dynamite he did not only lose his hand, but he blew his bathroom off of his house and
ok
ated his dog. Despite his handicap he is fully capable of doing anything he would like to do,

ied. Some of his hobbies would be riding four wheelers, hunting, and fishing Oi Hu
‘Vernon Richard has played many important roles in his life, but the role that I am most
thankful for is the role he plays as my grandfather. His appearance is one that I would never
forget. His face is leathered with age, and he has a prominent jawline. He is a working man
which possesses a working man’s hand. He is 5°9” tall, but he still somehow able to inspire a
feeling of being intimidated. He would go out of his own way to help his family, and he is one of
the smartest people I know.Hunt 3
Richard Daniel Hunt is my father, and he grew up in a house in Sophia, NC. He married
as a teenager to Angela C. Lawrence on April 16, 1984, and they had two children named Brandi
DeAnne Hunt (November 22, 1984), and Darren Shawn Hunt (January 17, 1989). In the coming
years they would separate and then Richard married again to Melissa Kay MeWilliams on May 2,
2%, 1997, and had me (April 30, 1996) and my sister Leah Danielle Hunt (December 13, 2004)

His Primary occupation is also a manager of the same company that his father wag.a manager of.
‘My mother works at a convenience store (R. Hunt}, CHunt Q2-
Brandi is the eldest of my generation. She went to college to be a photographer at
Randolph Community College, and works for different car companies. She got married to Jason
Hobson on February” 2015, and they have a child named Lillian Hobson (August 23, 2014).
Darren is the second oldest. He went to college at NASCAR Technical Institute, and he lives in
(Charleston, South Carolina, where he works as a master technician and manages aroun (1S auto
repair quick lanes. He is married to Lala Hunt, and they plan on having children one day.
Lam the third oldest and the oldest child for my mother. In my lifetime J am currently
working on a Mechanical Engineering Technology degree at the University of North Carolina at
Charlotte. My mother was 1 not supposed to have children but she did have me and my sister. My
little sister named Leah Hunt is in the fourth grade, and we have basically always been together
until now. We went to the same elementary school and she has some of the same teachers that I
have had.
When I get older I plan on following the family tradition of giving one of my names to
my son, as many generations in front of me have. I intend to pass on my knowledge to the
upcoming generations so my family history will never be forgotten, Now I understand more
about my family, and this project has motivated me to start recording my family history.Hunt 4
