Journal Entry

Week 3

My experience at Wrap Around Delaware was fulfilling this week. I was

fortunate enough to have the opportunity to observe the intake process.
During the intake process the Service Coordinator asks the youth a series of
questions pertaining to their interests, home life and charge.
The Service Coordinator created a warm welcoming atmosphere for the
youth and his parent. During the intake process the Service Coordinator
communicated the ISP (individual service plan) set by the Court as well as
the goals the youth should meet to successfully complete the program. The
youth was also offered the opportunity to work with the vocational group at
Wrap Around Delaware. This group is responsible for assisting with job
training, resume writing/ building and interviews.
The strengths I believe I would bring into this type of field work are being
analytical and having a sincere concern to help others. Additionally I would
adopt the same idea as the Service Coordinator I observed. For instance, I
would be sure to create an environment to promote openness and trust
between the youth and myself. During the process of discussing the charges
the youth incurred I would need to remain objective. It is also important to
make a self-note that the youth is the client, not the guardian. I also learned
I will need to be very resourceful due to the complex needs of the youth and
their families.
