Community Dance

Community dance is about community dance artists working with the people. What
makes 'community dance' different from other kinds of participatory dance activity?
Community dance is for everyone and anyone of all ages, size and ability and that
what makes it so popular. Participants do not necessarily have aspirations to work
professionally in the dance world but it is recognised to be a valuable and inclusive
route to working in dance professionally.
Community dance will teach non-dancers communications, teamwork, confidence and
discipline.
Community dance can happen anywhere and everywhere. It takes place in a range of
settings, each with a specific set of conditions and a range of employers. However, it
usually happens outside statutory education. Community dance includes many kinds
of dance styles, routines and technique.
Community dance is not confined to any specific dance style and is concerned with
engaging participants creatively and safely, exploring dance ideas and forms of their
own.
Community dance can:
Contribute to the development of dance as an art form and support the artistic
development of professional and non-professional dancers
Impact positively on people's health and well-being, their personal motivation
and their social relationships
