YOUTHBUILD NORTH SHORE TO HAVE MENTAL TOUGHNESS WORKSHOP

Mental toughness prepares students for the future
SALEM, Mass On Monday, Sept. 8, 2014 through Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, YouthBuild North
Shore will hold its mental toughness program at YouthBuilds Salem location, 102 Lafayette St.,
Salem, MA.

Mental toughness is an intense two week workshop that prepares students for future
employment. The purpose of mental toughness is to motivate and inspire students who
participate in the workshop, and to help make the final selection of students. During this session,
students will learn life skills and be given hard academic work. Mental toughness teaches
students to be determined, to be hard workers and learn to be successful. The program is
designed for students to become mentally stronger people. Being mentally strong prepares
students for future careers when working full-time.

Mental toughness is a program that encourages students to develop relationships with

their peers and teachers. During the two weeks, students will have training lessons on public
speaking, conflict resolution and be introduced to the topic of post-secondary education.

Activities students will participate in are discussing what YouthBuild is, and the expectations of
the program, the students, and the teachers. There will be an AmeriCorps workshop and a sit
down lunch with the Salem Rotary to learn more about them. Students will also learn meditation
skills and how to use them in their everyday lives. Students who overcome mental challenges are
better prepared to plan for their future. YouthBuild has various locations throughout the United
States as well. Other locations provide mental toughness workshops that are one or two weeks
long.

YouthBuild North Shore is a non-profit organization that strives to help lower income
families and communities for better housing. It gives students the opportunity to work on site
with construction companies and help improve communities from the ground up. All students
enrolled in YouthBuilds program have the chance to graduate and either attend college or
pursue a full-time job.
