Subject: Violent water splashing at the Yanpet II SWR line to outfall channel
We would like to have the following information to further understand the cause of this
problem:
1. The 3000 mm main SW return line is connected with three different sea water
return lines each from NIGC, Yanpet II and Yanpet III. The NIGC and Yanpet II
return lines are connected through pumps and Yanpet III return line is connected
from the pond. The design data of these pumps as per performance curves are as
follows:
- Yanpet II Pump
Flow rate: 15938 m^3/hr
Head : 20.1 m
Power: 1000 kW
-

NIGC Pump
Flow rate: 4000 m^3/hr
Head: 30 mtr
Power: 380 kW

However, the flow of water from Yanpet III is not known to us. Please furnish this
information.
2. Discharge pressure gauge readings of these pumps and also the actual power
consumed by these pumps to arrive on the flow rates at which these pumps are
operating. Also we would like to know whether the pressure gauges readings are
constant or are fluctuating continuously.
3. How is the arrangement of these pumps (i.e. are these dedicated return water
pumps or are these pumps used to pump the water through cooling system and the
return of cooling system is connected to the outfall line?). A detailed P&ID of sea
water cooling system of all the three industries will help us understand the system
clearly.
4. We would like to have the GA drawing of the pond at Yanpet III. If it is possible
to have some snap shots of this pond and the return sea water line it will help us
understand the arrangement better.
5.

If possible, we would like to visit the site to see these pumps, pound and air
release and vacuum breaker valves location in this system.
