Dear Representative:
On behalf of the American Conservative Union, I urge you to vote for H.R. 1105, the Death Tax
Repeal Act of 2015, sponsored by Congressman Kevin Brady, which is scheduled for a vote on
Thursday.
It was ten years ago this week that the House last took a stand on this issue when, on a bipartisan
vote of 272-162, the House passed a bill to make permanent the temporary repeal contained in
the 2001 tax cut bill. That vote was one of the key votes contained in ACUs 2005 Ratings of
Congress.
Poll after poll over many years show substantial majorities in favor of repeal. This reflects
peoples understanding of the unfairness of this tax and that the people it hurts the most are small
family-owned businesses and farming families. It makes no sense to require grieving families to
pay a confiscatory tax on their loved ones nest egg. The funds to pay the tax are often raised by
selling assets or selling the family business outright. Although static scoring shows a revenue
loss, a study by former CBO Director Douglas Holtz-Eakin showed that repealing the Death Tax
would add nearly one million small business jobs, producing more tax revenue in the long run.
Please vote YES on H.R. 1105, the Death Tax Repeal Act.
Sincerely,

Matt Schlapp
Chairman
American Conservative Union
