CHAPTER 2: Tech-PACK Reflection

The Tech-PACK is how teachers self-access their ability to carry out the
integration strategy they have chosen, (Roblyer and Doering, 2012, 30-70). The three
knowledge points that are analyze are, content, pedagogy, and technology. The Tech-Pack
started in 1986, and over the decades areas have been added, starting with pedagogy and
content (PCK). Next Hughes then added technology, which made it the TPCK. In 2007, it
became the TPACK when Thompson and Mishra decided it represents interdependence of
the three knowledge domains and represents the total package of teacher knowledge
required for technology integration. In 2012 it became critical to the technology to
teaching, (Roblyer and Doering, 2012, 30-70).
Content knowledge (CK) contains information in content areas (science, social
studies), but changes often, (Roblyer and Doering, 2012, 30-70). Teachers make sure
they know the latest information when it comes to the content and standard for students.
Teachers review through study guides, if state tested, to make sure students know the
material, and to make sure the lesson has an impact. If students dont know the material
as well as they should, teachers will come up with new content.
Pedagogy knowledge (PK) is about each content has its own knowledge about
how to teach it at its best, (Roblyer and Doering, 2012, 30-70). Pedagogical knowledge
is updated by new research and knowledge. Pedagogical practices are usually in teacher
manuals, textbooks, journals, and magazines. If teachers know the material well they can
use it in the classroom, but if not they use other ways to engage students, such as
examples, illustrate, concepts, or practice.

Technology knowledge (TK) has a lot of new technologies that come out quickly,
one after the other, so it can be hard for teachers to keep up, (Roblyer and Doering,
2012, 30-70). Teachers have to keep up and read up on the new technologies to make
them effective for students to use and actually understand them.
My professional growth goal for Content knowledge would be making sure that I
am able to understand information, lesson plans for my students and able to teach them in
ways they will understand. I would hope that they would follow my lead because if I
dont understand the content, most likely my students would not either. Next in the area
of Pedagogy knowledge I would want to come up with different strategies to teach to my
student, from the resources and materials I have had to help me come up with practices to
use in the classroom. Lastly, I would always want to be able to keep up with new
technologies that come out, being up to date is important because technology is a part of
the system of learning and being able to use technology helps with teaching students.
My professional growth goals relate to the PEU standards because I will be able
to give all my students of different backgrounds information they need to now and teach
it to them different ways, to fit their learning styles. Reflecting on the information and
practices I have learned to be able to make them effective in my classroom. Being able to
communicate with my students and what they understand and new ways to have them
know the information. This all is about the Content and Pedagogical knowledge that goes
into Technology.
My professional growth goals relate to the NETS standards because for teachers
its all about show students ways to learn that are creative, on different contents, whether
in a classroom, one on one, or using technology. I have to develop and design ways

students can learn information they have never know before and take the responsibility of
whether they actually understand what they are learning and have them engaged and
participating. For the students they should want to gain new knowledge, use the practices
teachers provide for them. Be able to ask any questions and communicate with the
teachers. Students should be able to apply all the tools given, use the technology to the
students advantage, and being able to solve any problems, and deal with issues related to
technology.

This assignment was about how well a teacher is able to know the areas of
technology and integrate in lesson plans in a classroom. Before completing this

assignment I did not know anything about this, but it was interesting to learn.
Important terms pertaining to this chapter were Tech- Pack, Constructivism, and
Directed Instruction. Tech- Pack is a combination of technological pedagogical
content knowledge required to integrate technology most effectively into
instruction to emphasize the critical contribution of technology to teaching.
Constructivism is a form of inquiry-based learning when you obtain knowledge
by figuring out something on your own. Direct Instruction is where teachers
transmit a pre-defined set of information to students through teacher-organized

activities.
I would use the knowledge of the Tech-Pack in a classroom setting as the way to
teach a classroom. Using this as way to direct students, using the phases and

steps.
