This unit entitled Weather is designed for 2nd grade.

The unit
will integrate many academic disciplines while teaching students about
weather with specifics such as the water cycle, thunderstorms,
blizzards, temperature and the four seasons.
Students will do a variety of activities to enhance their learning.
First the students explore an introduction to the concept of weather.
Then students will experience through literature information on the
water cycle and create a Cloud in a Jar. Next students will learn to
identify types of safety precautions of thunderstorms and blizzards by
demonstrating their new knowledge with guided notes. Finally students
will explore the characteristics of the four seasons.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Education
Standards, (S.K-2.D.2.1: Identify basic weather conditions.) the
students will be producing works of art, speaking and listening during
discussions, applying process knowledge that enables them to become
independent leaders thought inquiry and design, and study the
dynamics of earth science, which includes the studies of forces of
nature that build earth and wear down earth.
When the unit is complete, the students will be able to describe
different types of weather, the processes of the water cycle, facts
about blizzards, thunderstorms, how to read temperature and describe
the four seasons. This content is key in a students ability to
understanding, explore, and explain the natural world around them.
