In her PSIII, Melissa taught primarily science, social studies, health and physical activity at the
grade five level. She had a diverse group of students and displayed a desire to differentiate for
‘the various needs in her classroom. I witnessed her modifying expectations and building in class
accommodations for students who struggled with materials. Frequently she would use her
students as the experts and allow them to share their knowledge and understandings with
classmates. Additionally, strategies such as providing scribes/readers, re-teaching, whole class
Teview, game based learning, and the use of teacher proximity were all employed in order to
enhance student engagement and understanding.
