    Ependymal cells- line ventricles of brain and promote circulation of cerobspinal fluid

    (blood-brain barrier)
    Gamma-aminobutyric acid- diazepam (Vallium) binds to GABA receptor
    Glycine- inhibited by strychnine (rat poison)
    Serotonin- Prozac inhibits reuptake
    Carbon monoxide- heme oxygenase in neurons in the brain and PNS, brainregulates release of hypothalamic hormones, PNS- hyperpolarizes plasma
    membrane of intestinal smooth muscle cells
    Inotrope- positive inotropic agents increase strength of muscular contraction,
    negatively inotropic agents weaken muscular contractions
    Ampholytes are amphoteric because they exist as zwitterions.
    L has NH3 on the left, D has NH3 on the right
