Student Support Teacher, for the 2010/2011 Outstanding Elmbrook Employee Award,
Burleigh's 2010/2011 all school theme is "Children Write/Right the Future.” As we focus
‘on the whole child-a long standing part of Burleigh’s mission, itis essential to Keep in mind
the affective, social/emotional factors which contribute to a full and well rounded Burleigh
student. As Student Support Teacher Mrs. Janas prepares students to “right” their
future.
Inall of her roles Kitty has demonstrated the attributes of being organized, hard working
and knowledgeable of standards, outcomes and curriculum, She has a sincere passion to
reach every child that she works with, Mrs. Tanas is truly «professional educator who
believes in success for all students and looks out for the best interests of the whole
school community. She feels strongly that for students to be academically competent,
however, they must also display the academic enablers of Motivation, Engagement, Health
and Wellness, Study Skills and Enterpersonal Skills, She spends countless hours coaching
students individually, in small groups and in classes to promote aspects of the academic
enablers that help ensure student success,
‘Many teachers look to Kitty for leadership. For the pest three years she hes facilitated
Burleigh's Student Support Team, successfully coordinating this team of teachers, support
staff and parents, The team promotes ways to support positive student interactions, such
‘as the Word of the Month program, develops lessons that address self-concept, self-
esteem and problem solving and leads the school in the development and implementation of
initietives such os the Student Mini-Conventions to build school-wide behavioral
expectations. In the role of Student Support Teacher, Kitty is responsible for devising a
specialist schedule-a daunting challenge for a large school, She does so with patience
aed persistence. She oversees lunch supervision and manages a team of
purprofessonle ho ar responsible forthe stucerts daring thee nchhaur,
‘as well cs the lunch schedule, bus schedule, and more! She is always conscious of |
