Quick Mini Lesson on Chrysanthemum

Objectives: Students will be able to pick out meaningful vocabulary words
and use them to create an ABC vocabulary list as a class.
Materials: The book Chrysanthemum and a board with the letters of the
alphabet written out (possibly excluding X)
Procedures:
Before: The teacher will introduce the book to the students and explain that
there are many vocabulary words in this book that we know and some that we do
not, but that doesnt make them any less important. The teacher will flip through
the book and show them some of the harder vocabulary words to develop a
background base.
During: Then the teacher will read the book aloud to the class. After the book
is completed the teacher will ask the children to talk about some of the words they
heard. She/he will write some in the ABC List (possibly C- Chrysanthemum, WWinsome) then the students will have a turn to write on the board. (If there are
more students than letters double up) Make sure each student has had a chance to
write on the board.
Closure: Ask the students what they think of our vocabulary wall. Find out if
they believe there are anymore that should be added.
