Number of Students: There are 23 students in this classroom

Number of Males/Females: There are 15 boys and 8 girls
Age Range: Their ages range from 8 to 9 years old.
Mental, Social, Physical, Social Notes, such as:
o Disabilities: There are no known disabilities for any of the students.
o Learning Differences: There are some differences in that two students have difficulty
working in groups together. One deals with anger management issues and the other
has anxiety in group situations.
o Cultural/Ethnic Notes: This is a culturally diverse group of students but with no
known religious restrictions on material taught.
Current Knowledge, Prerequisites, and Notes About Learner Attitudes: All students are highly
engaged with technology and have been using various web programs and delivery systems
throughout the year. Each child has access to the Internet from their home environment.

Dear Mrs. LaRue Lesson
Summary
This lesson is a webquest designed for students to interact through activities and
evaluation of different aspects of this book such as point of view and perception. Lesson
is accessed through website:

State/National: Common core standards for this lesson include 3.RL.1, 3.RL.3, 3.RL.6, and 3.RL.7.
Technology NETS for Students: The standards covered in this lesson are student standards 1, 2, 4,
5, and 6.
Learning Objectives (created from learning outcomes)

1. Students will read or listen to the story, Dear Mrs. LaRue and complete various activities.
2. Knowledge: Students will recall information learned from the text to answer various
questions.
3. Comprehension: Students will compare and contrast characters description v. illustrations
in book.
4. Application: Students will role-play that they are Ike and responding to a situation that may
have occurred in the book and write about how they would have handled the situation and
then students will respond to others letters pretending they are Mrs. LaRue explaining her
perspective.
5. Analysis: Students will categorize parts of the story into the saddest, happiest, most
unbelievable, and funniest.
6. Synthesis: Students will formulate a new scenario that could have happened in the book and
predict/justify how the main characters would each react to the situation.
7. Evaluation: Students will judge whether or not the main character should have reacted in a
particular way and why through a book evaluation.

What is the recommended duration of this activity?
10 days time, with activities #1-3 due after 5 days and #4-6 due at the end of
the day 10.
Grouping
What is the recommended grouping for this activity?
The entire class will participate at their own pace. Students will work individually on
some activities and in a forum group or blog group with other activities.
Assessment (Summative and Formative)
State how each objective will be evaluated.

1. Students will read or listen to the story, Dear Mrs. LaRue and complete various activities.
Instructor will know if students do not turn in assignments.
2. Knowledge: Students will recall information learned from the text to answer various
questions. Students will complete a comprehension sheet (comprehension assessment).
3. Comprehension: Students will compare and contrast characters description v. illustrations
in book. Students will reflect on the differences and explain their observations.
4. Application: Students will role-play that they are Ike and responding to a situation that may
have occurred in the book and write about how they would have handled the situation and
then students will respond to others letters pretending they are Mrs. LaRue explaining her
perspective. Performance task and peer/instructor evaluation responses.
5. Analysis: Students will categorize parts of the story into the saddest, happiest, most

email to the instructor and receive feedback through email.

Extension Items
List ideas to extend or modify this activity. Additional ideas would be for students to
read additional LaRue books and compare them to this book through additional student
interaction and performance tasks. Students could also write a different ending to the
book.
Areas of Concern
List any potential areas of concern with implementing this activity. My original concern
was that students would not have access to the book because it is not an ebook.
However, if they cant check it out from the library or store, I have added a link to the
book through YouTube.
