About LaKeyvia Finner

I am LaKeyvia Finner; I was born December 26th, 1982 to Barbara Dunlap and Roosevelt Nelson
Jr. I have 4 siblings 2 sisters and 2 brothers. I am the middle child.

When I was about 10 years old I had begun to babysit my cousins. Each time I did babysit at the
time I was supervised by my mother. At this early age I realized that I really enjoyed taking care
of children even though I was a child myself. I didnt charge anyone at this for my services
because I was just grateful that they were entrusting the child in my care. Anytime I was
approached to babysit I took it, at this age I didnt know that I was being molded for the career
path that Im so proud to be a part of.

As the years passed I never lost my passion for taking care of children. I wrote a paper in high
school about opening my own childcare facility. I love caring for children and seeing them grow.
It amazes me to see the individualism in each child, no two children are alike. Children are so
full of personality.
I began to look for employment in the childcare field at the age of 17. On October 10, 2000 I was
found my 1st professional childcare job at Coming Home Childcare Center located on the
Northwest side of Milwaukee, WI. I learned a great deal of information like having patience,
being professional no matter what, offering nutritious meals for the children, to respect the
families choices as well as the childs space. I became pregnant with my first son Eric and he
attended the childcare for a little bit. I was employed at Coming Home Childcare Center for 3
years. Because I now had a child I had to provide for I found higher paying employment at US
Bank. I worked at the bank for about 1 year and I knew my heart wasnt in it so I began my
search again to work with children.
I found employment at Amys Academy, where I obtained my EC I & II, certification in CPR,
First aid, SIDs, Shaken Baby and more. Also, while employed here I was taught how to prepare
age appropriate curriculums, run a classroom, do DPI, grocery shop for an entire center, how to
do room arrangements and schedules for employees.
Amys Academy gave me great insight on the development of children. I was employed there for
2 years. I was then employed at Franciscan Villa CDC where I obtained more knowledge on
children and my Early Childhood Administrators Credential. During my time here I gave birth
to twin boys Ethan and Ean and I also became engaged. During the planning of my wedding I
decided to dedicate my time to the planning process. I was a part of this team for 3 years.

On April 3rd, 2010 I married my husband David Finner. After the planning of the wedding, I
wanted to work part-time so I would be able to attend to my family. So I hunted for a childcare
that offered part-time employment and I found it at Our Fathers Lutheran ECDC. This facility is

a small, friendly environment. I started working here on May 10, 2010 and Im still enjoying my
time here. I love this place because its like a home away from home. Our families and the
children are phenomenal, I am truly blessed to have found such a wonderful team to be a part of.
August 2012, I was also blessed with my fourth child, 1st daughter Myli. I love being a mother,
wife and an educator.
To this day I still am as passionate about caring for children as I was at the age of 10. I enjoy
what I do and I plan to continue my education in this wonderful field so that Im better able to
provide a loving, caring, stable and developmentally appropriate environment for children.
