OpenItemInterface
YoucanimportitemsfromanysourceintoOracleInventoryandOracleEngineeringusingtheItemInterface.
Withthisinterface,youcanconvertinventoryitemsfromanotherinventorysystem,migrateassemblyand
componentitemsfromalegacymanufacturingsystem,convertpurchaseditemsfromacustompurchasing
system,andimportnewitemsfromaProductDataManagementpackage.
WhenyouimportitemsthroughtheItemInterface,youcreatenewitemsinyourItemMasterorganizationor
assignexistingitemstoadditionalorganizations.Youcanspecifyvaluesforalltheitemattributes,oryoucan
specifyjustafewattributesandlettheremainderdefaultorremainnull.TheItemInterfacealsoletsyouimport
revisiondetails,includingpastandfuturerevisionsandeffectivitydates.Validationofimporteditemsisdone
usingthesamerulesastheitemdefinitionforms,soyouareinsuredofvaliditems.
TheItemInterfacereadsdatafromtwotablesforimportingitemsanditemdetails.Youusethe
MTL_SYSTEMS_ITEM_INTERFACEtablefornewitemnumbersandallitemattributes.Thisisthemainitem
interfacetable,andcanbetheonlytableyouchoosetouse.Ifyouareimportingrevisiondetailsfornewitems,
youcanusetheMTL_ITEM_REVISIONS_INTERFACEtable.Thistableisusedonlyforrevisioninformation,
andisnotrequired.Athirdtable,MTL_INTERFACE_ERRORS,isusedforerrortrackingofallitemsthatthe
ItemInterfacefails.

BeforeyouusetheItemInterface,youmustwriteandrunacustomprogramthatextractsiteminformationfrom
yoursourcesystemandinsertsitintotheMTL_SYSTEM_ITEM_INTERFACEtable,and(ifrevisiondetailis
included)theMTL_ITEMS_REVISIONS_INTERFACEtable.Afteryouloadtheitemsintotheseinterface
tables,youruntheItemInterfacetoimportthedata.TheItemInterfaceassignsdefaults,validatesdatayou
include,andthenimportsthenewitems.
Attention:YoumustimportitemsintotheItemMasterorganizationbeforeyouimportitemsinto
additionalorganizations.YoucanaccomplishthisbyspecifyingonlyyourItemMasterorganization
onafirstpassrunoftheItemInterface.Oncethishascompleted,youcanruntheItemInterface
again,thistimespecifyinganadditionalorallorganizations.
YoucanalsousetheItemInterfacetoimportitemmaterialcost,materialoverhead,andrevisiondetails.
