Herman Goering:
1. How and why they joined the party?
He helped Hitler rise to power in 1933 and became the second most powerful man in
Germany.
2. Role in Hitlers Reich?
He was third in the Reich and wanted all Jews to leave Austria. The first step towards this
was what would become the Nazi final solution to the Jewish question, or the
holocaust, which ultimately murdered 6 million European Jews.

- Appointed prime minister and interior minister of Prussia
- Founded the Gestapo (secret police of Germany)

- Hitler promoted him to a rank senior to all other Wehrmacht commanders. In 1941
Hitler designated him as his successor and deputy in all his office.
4. What happened to them after the war?
In May 1945, he surrendered to the Americans. He pleaded to be shot instead of hung, but
the tribunal refused this request. On October 15, 1946, the night his execution was in
order, He committed suicide by taking Cyanide and immediately died in his cell.
