Conversation on Womens Culture Around The World

I held a conversation with my friend Pho about my topic. I contacted her via the phone
for our conversation. I gave an overview about my presentation and told her what I had already
included. Then I asked her three questions, What do you think about traditions in other
cultures? She believes that people who live in America are biased to other cultures around the
world. She thinks it is unfair to say one culture is weird and their traditions are abnormal. She
thinks people view other cultures like this because we are not used to it. We are only used to
what we have always viewed as right in our culture (Butler). For an example, I think arranged
marriage is not right, but in India it is completely normal.
The next question I asked was, Do you think we should know about women from
different cultures? Pho responded, Yes, because our culture is not the only culture. She used
the example of studying abroad (Butler). If she was to go to a different culture to learn, she
would need to know the rules and ways of that particular culture. If Pho was to visit India, she
needs to know the roles of women as far as teaching and what she is allowed to there.
The last question I asked, What do you think I should include in my presentation? Pho
agrees that I have included some interesting topics for my presentation. Pho agrees that I should

include the way men treat their wives in other cultures. She also mentioned that I should talk
about divorce as one of my topics. She informed me that in some cultures women do not get
custody of the children (Butler). I did not think about including this, so this surprised me. I will
definitely research this and incorporate it into my project. I was not surprised about the answers
to the first two questions I asked Pho. I would have answered them the same way.
