THE GUIDANCE C= iia o April 20, 2015 To whom it may concern: Giselle Riker completed an internship in the Guidance Center's Latina Mom group from October 2013 through April 2014. The Latina Moms is a play group-support group for Spanish-speaking. moms with children under 3 years old. All of the group members are clients of the Parent Infant Program, an Infant Mental Health program that provides parent-infant therapy, emotional support, advocacy, developmental guidance and concrete services. The Latina Moms group meets weekly for 2 % hours with another 2 hours of preparation and debriefing. Giselle’s activities included set-up and clean up, assistance to the teacher and therapist and interactions with adults and children. She was enthusiastic and warm in her demeanor and made families comfortable, despite the language difficulty. In fact, she used this ‘opportunity to improve her knowledge of Spanish. The experience gave her insight into the Problems of families with young children, especially undocumented immigrants. It also gave her experience with non-judgmental listening to parents and children, and opportunity to observe family interactions. My coworker, Isabel Ramirez Crudo and | appreciate her participation in the Latina Moms group.
