Metaphorical Response
The poem Colors passing through us by Marge Peircy is a rainbow of color.
This poem describes many colors in the way of life. I think the meaning of this poem is to
describe all the colors we are missing in our daily lives. Another meaning of the poem is
to tell people to value every color for what its worth because colors are beautiful and we
shouldnt let them pass through us. when day has gone without a trace and we lie in each
others arms eyes shut and fingers open and all the colors of the world pass through our
bodies like strings of fire (Colors 50-54). The rainbow aspect of the poem is the world
is full of colors so we should cherish them just like a rainbow. The colors of the world are
just as promising like the rainbow is. The speaker of the poem is telling us rainbows dont
last forever but you can see colors for eternity but when your sight runs out you can never
see color. You should treat color like it is the last time you are ever going to see again.
Here is my bouquet, here is a sing song of all the things you make me think of
(Colors 31-33). In these lines I think the speaker is trying to describe an actual person
to color. Color is beautiful and so are people. The speaker may also be trying to compare
a person to a bouquet of colorful flowers. Such as a person has different beautiful things
about them just as a bouquet of followers might have different ones. Or the person may
be the same just like a bouquet of all the same flowers. Colors passing through us is a
rainbow because it is very promising and it is very colorful and sees the beauty in
everything.
