the study of heredity or inheritance.

It explains why you look like you do.

Inherited Traits
A trait is a characteristic
passed down from
parent to offspring.
Your eye color, hair
texture and color, nose
shape, body structure,
and even the way your
earlobes hang are part
of your traits.

Dominant and Recessive Traits


A dominant trait is
a strong trait that
will most likely
appear.
A recessive trait is
a weak trait that will
only appear if both
parents give this
trait.

Genes
A gene is a part of a
chromosome and
contain your DNA.
Each trait has its own
gene.
You have about
25,000 genes that
determine your traits.

DNA
Deoxyribonucleic Acid
Forms in a twisted
ladder with a simple
structure
Made of sugar,
phosphate, and four
bases.
The four bases are
Adenine, Thymine,
Cytosine, and
Guanine

Base Pairs
Adenine will only
pair with Thymine
Guanine will only
pair with Cytosine
These bases connect
with a hydrogen
bond.
