Directing One: Directors Vision

Enchanted April Matthew Barber

One word for show:

My one word for the show is renewal. By the end of the show, all of the women renew the lives
that they had once known. Lotty and Mellersh renew their love for each other. Rose and Frederick also
renew their love for each other, with figuring out how to cope with the loss of their child. Mrs. Gravess
opinion on the world and some of her other standpoints are renewed by seeing the world through youthful
eyes. Caroline renews her hope for herself by coping with the loss of her husband and finding love with
Mr. Wilding.

One word for scene:

My one word for my scene is adventure. Lotty finds a sense of adventure within herself and asks
Rose to go to Italy with her. Rose finds a sense of adventure within herself by letting down her walls for a
few minutes whenever Lottys description of getting away peaks her interest. Wilding has a standing
sense of adventure all the time. He is like a young boy, easily excited and ready to do anything.

Mood for show:

The mood of the show is hopeful. All the women hope to become a different person when over in Italy.
They all hope for their lives to turn around and become what theyve always wanted.

Mood for scene:

The mood of the scene is heavy and damp. Both settings are dark and in London, where it is
always raining. Everyone in the scene is uncertain and change, well except for Lotty.

Protagonist:
The protagonist of the show is Lotty.
Lotty is the reason the entire trip happens; she is the one to get Rose to agree to go on the trip and
she is also the one who puts out the advertisement for companions on the trip. Lotty brings out the best in
all of the women, as well as the men. Lotty also encourages Rose to invite Frederick to the estate, which
renews Rose and Fredericks relationship, helping them through the grieving process.
