Lesson Five

Observations: Ashley Newell and

Thursday the 13th of November

Personal Feedback
**I was away with school sport in previous lesson so the girls
had not had a gymnastics lesson in two weeks
As it had been a few weeks since our last gymnastics lesson I
was really impressed that girls could remember many of the
skills previously learnt
Students got a lot out of each activity and it allowed me to make
my way around to each student through out the lesson
Video shows that students were engaged throughout the
activities and helping each other through each skill
Would be helpful to get some sort of mirror system so the
students would be able to see themselves perform the skill to
give them immediate feedback.
Feedback
Revising the content from each lesson allows the students to
remember the key components of each skill. The girls remembered
the many key skills for each activity.
Showing the girls examples from previous skills that were performed
well was very good (on iPad). The girls responded well to the
feedback and also seemed to be motivated in hope that you might
show them performing well next lesson.
Good to outline you expectations of the girls behavior for the lesson
Although you have situated yourself on the high beam for safety,

ensure you are still keeping an eye out on all activities and that the
girls know that you can still see them
Well planned lesson. The activities were set up well for good flow
through the lessons. It shows that you have put thought into the
lesson sequence and of learning
Good use of voice soft when wanting the girls to listen, encouraging
when providing feedback
Good constructive feedback well done on tucking your chin to your
chest when performing a forward roll
Discussion/Actions Arising
Ash, Sally and I discussed the importance of consistency with the
students and how in a busy school program often this cannot be
achieved, especially in PE where we are so dependent on weather
and PE staff are often out due to numerous sporting events. Although
this is an unavoidable part of our job it can really impact of our
students learning and ability to achieve a set skill. In saying this I was
very impressed as to how the girls retained the information and the
ability to perform set skills such as the forward roll, beam dismount
and trampoline jump.
Overall the lesson went well. As it was a triple session, the Year two
cohort was broken into class groups and sent off with either Sally,
Alice (Sports Coach) or myself. It was interesting to see how each
class coped with the activities and how the different dynamics of each
group effected the lesson structure it self. I found that with 2W I spent
more time explaining each activity where as 2A needed less
prompting and were able to just use the cue cards and peer

discussion to work through each skill.


Overall I believe that I have effectively addressed my question of
inquiry. The techniques used and learned through this process have
assisted me to properly cater to each students needs, give effective
and useful feedback to give each student the opportunity to learn and
achieve their personal best. This is not to say that my learning journey
is finished and I have no more to develop, but rather has taught me to
constantly reflect on my teaching to be able cater for my students
needs.
