Animal Rights Affect the Lives of Humans and Animals

Hello my exhibition topic is Animal Rights, ever wonder what the first animal rights organization
was or wonder how people catch tuna fish? Then this is the report for you. Our exhibition
theme is Who We Are and our central idea is Our Passions affect the actions we take locally and
globally. My central idea is Animal Rights Affect the Lives of Humans and Animals my lines of
inquiry are Animal rights locally and globally, History of animal rights and animal rights affect
the lives of endangered animals. I have chosen this topic because I like animals and their rights
interest me. I hope by reading this report I will make you more aware of animal rights around
the world and you will understand it more.

Animal Rights Locally and Globally

First this is the animal rights statement that most countries generally agree on the UDAW
(Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare) the laws on the sheet of paper are
. Animals have feelings and are worth something, animals have the right to be on earth we
benefit from each other
. Animals have the right not to be treated cruelly also known as the five freedoms freedom
from
. Hunger or thirst
. Heat or cold
. Pain or disease

. Fear and lastly unusual patterns of behavior.

These are the five freedoms.
One local example of animal rights violation (not following animal rights) is in the Harry Potter
tour Leavesden, Hertfordshire UK an animal rights organization called PETA claims they saw
scared owls in very small cages. PETA also sent an investigator to film the tour and on the clip
the handlers of the owls are encouraging the quests to touch the owls making them perform
tricks. One global example of animal rights violation is the effects of fishing for tuna on
dolphins, the problem is dolphins and tuna hang around each other so if you used bycatch (a
type of fishing net) you would catch a dolphin as well as the tuna. The only way to catch tuna
without harming a dolphin is to use a line and pole and even if you freed the dolphin it would
have to go through this process many times in its life. Another example of animal rights
violation is killing animals just for their fur and no other use some people think that people
have worn animal skins for thousands of years and should continue doing so but others think
that it is cruel to kill animals just for their fur.

History of Animal Rights

The RSPCA was the first ever animal welfare group in

the world, it was founded in 1824 in a
London coffee shop but they got a boost when Queen Victoria said they could call it the RSPCA
R standing for royal instead of the SPCA. The RSPCA stands for the Royal Society of Prevention
to Cruelty to Animals it was founded by people who thought animals have feeling to. The
ASPCA was founded by Henry Bergh they made the first animal rights law in 1641 and it was
Stop cruelty against any brute creature kept by man. The ASPCA mission stated by Henry
Bergh in 1866 was to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals
throughout the United States and the ASPCA stands for the American society of prevention to
cruelty to animals. The RSPB was founded 1889 to stop people from wearing feathers in their
hats the reason was they were killing the mother birds and leaving the babies to starve to
death. As the UKs biggest nature reserve the RSPB focuses on restoring natural habitats they
also work internationally in certain places to help birds and other wildlife.
Animal Rights Affect the Lives of Endangered Animals

Here are some more examples of how animal rights groups have helped endangered animals
or how animal cruelty has affected them. I was shocked to learn that in America there are
5,000 tigers held captive and 95% are owed by people that have no experience in taking care of
animals let alone tigers. WWF started a four year project in October 2012 to help preserve
snow leopard habitat in seven different countries by encouraging locals to protect snow
leopard habitat so they have a better chance of survival, snow leopards are endangered by
habitat loss, poaching and human snow leopard conflict this is one example of how an animal
rights group has helped an endangered animal. Due to habitat loss the red wolf is critically
endangered. Red wolfs were almost hunted to the brink of extinction in 1980 the Fish and wild
life service took 20 pure red wolfs to be breed in captivity to help them today there are 100 red
wolfs left in the wild.

Conclusion

My plan to take action is to make a brochure and hand it out to people to inform them about
animal rights. I learned that not everybody has the same point of view of animal rights as I do. I
used to think that animals have lots of rights now I think that animals need more rights because
I think they need them as much as we do. This is a very interesting topic for me I hope you like
it to and you find it very interesting.
