Appendix A ASTM STANDARDS ON GROUND WATER AND VADOSE ZONE INVESTIGATIONS Sponsored by ASTM Committee D-18 on Soil and Rock ib Second Edition 1994 [ASTM Publication Cade Number (PCN): 00-418094-98 ASTM 1916 Race St, Philadelphia, PA 19103 Appendix A ap Designation: D 5092 - 90 Standard Practice for Design and installation of Ground Water Monitoring Wells in Aquifers" INTRODUCTION This practice for the design and instalation of ground water monitoring wells in aquifers will promote (/) durable and reliable construction, (2) extraction of representative ground water quality samples, and (3) efficient and site hydrogeological characterizations. The guidelines established herein are affected by governmental regulations and by site specific geological, hydrogeological, climatological, topographical, and subsurface chemistry conditions. To meet these geoenvironmental challenges, this guidance promotes the development of a conceptual hhydrogeologic model prior to monitoring well 1. Scope 1.1 This practice considers the selection and characteriza- tion (that is, defining soil, rock types, and hydraulic gradi- cents) of the target monitoring zone as an integral component of monitoring well design and installation. Hence, the development of a conceptual hydrogeologic model for the intended monitoring zone(s) is recommended prior to the
