Moonshine in the Middle East and NASCAR
My project is an examination of bootlegging and moonshine in American culture, My
partners and I have since divided up the broad sections each of us three will examine. I will be
looking into the modern day, how Prohibition era America’s bootlegging culture has created and
affected the sport of NASCAR, and perhaps modern prohibition in the Middle East. A look into
the Middle East wasn’t originally part of the plan, but I found a great article about moonshine
existing in Saudi Argbfa. Assuming it doesn’t make the scope of the project too broad, it might
to me that an underground culture of drinkers existed in an oppressive theocracy.
Tam nota NASCAR fan and have close to zero knowledge about it, so basically every
piece of research surprises me. knew that bootlegging somehow transferred into it but I didn’t
know thatthe two were concurrent, Some drivers drove boxcar by day and delivered moonshine
by night. I was also unaware of any famous bootleggers and the status that they had during
Prohibition. One of them, Junior Johnson, even created new driving techniques to evade police
and eventually win races. That surprised me, that bootleggers could use knowledge of cars and
aerodynamics to their advantage. aud oy
