He was a blacksmith by trade, and only quit from advanced age. Though I’m not sure why, he crossed the ocean from England and landed at St. John’s, Newfoundland. He married twice, to my great-great-great grandma Joanna Jackman and later to Ruth Moore, All together he had ten sons and three daughters by the time he died at the age of 94. One of his sons, Henry, left at the age of 14 to join the 90" Regiment, New York infantry as a private during the Civil War. After mustering out, he settled in Barnum, Minnesota with his brother, John, He married a woman named Florence End and had two children, Henry Jr. and Allyn, but she died only two years after Allyn’s birth. He was elected judge of probate by Carlton County and died three years later in office. There’s a Skelton Township in Carlton County named in honor of him and his brother, who was county surveyor for many years (Sandy B). Skelton 2 ‘Though their mother died shortly after they were born, Henry’s sons Allyn and Henry Jy, came to see their aunt Sophie as a motherly figure. After completing grade school, Allyn went to Duluth, Minnesota to take a business class and became a timber operator, which he did for over thirty years. On September 10, 1910, he married a former Barnum girl Edna Ballou, and had four children by her; John, Betty, Dorothy, and Allyn I. My father’s mother’s father’s name was Karol Karosidy He was bon in a town called rg. conglte Zavrh, Austria which is in modern day Slovenia. His family owned a big forest and sawmill in Austria, but his older brother was to inherit the land and Karol would have had to work for his brother. He decided to go make his own fortune. He considered going to South America but people retumed saying there was no food and that you don’t know hunger until you go there (— He came to America with his brothers, Matt and Anton. Some point after arriving in America, he decided to go by the more American name Charles. Mining officials recruiting at Ellis Island put him on a train to Eveleth, Minnesota, where he married Joanna Strezishar. She had eleven children by him, and a year after my grandmother was born, he was hit by a car and was killed. \ / Works Cited: Skelton 3 3. Sandy.
