Immodest Proposal

For my shadowing project, I chose to follow Ms. Laura Zeamer, a teacher at Vance High
School. During an interview I learned that her reasoning for choosing Vance was because it was a
Title I School. All four high school years I attended Vance, and went through the struggle of
attending a Title I. The topic that I choose to expand upon is how attending a Title I school is
beneficial to students as well as teachers. I find it interesting because many people have a stigma
against Title I schools and how the education and students there arent up to par.
I know that Title I schools are schools that have a high percentage of low-income families
where more than 40% of students receive free or reduced lunch, and the school receives
additional federal funding because of it. And even though they receive the extra funding it is
because they need it, and it still isnt enough. I expect that many people will feel as though I am
wrong in saying that Title I schools are good for students. Many Title I educators I expect would
reciprocate my ideas, and I hope that many people will become educated on Title I schools, and
that people can see what they can do as citizens whove graduated high school and what they can
do as adults to give back.
I hope that I can get people to understand the meaning and benefits attending a Title I
High School and how it sets a student up for college and later life. If this proposal is not
accepted, my back up plan is Equal distribution of school funding across the county.
