The electrical area classification shall be determined by applying the guidelines and requirements of NFPA 70 and API RP 500 + When PLC's and associated control devices are mounted in enclosures, the type of enclosures shall comply with the area classification. + Enclosures shall be adequately sized to allow for replacement and maintenance of PLC equipment and associated control devices. Enclosures shall have 4 in. minimum spacing around terminal blocks for ease of termination, and sufficient space for routing and bending of cables andlor conductors + To minimize the effects of power surges and transients on the PLC, a regulated voltage source should be considered for power supply to the PLC system. + COMPANY will provide redundant UPS power feed (230VAC, 50 Hz) to supply power to PLC- based control systems, which require uninterrupted operation in case of a power failure Further distribution and wiring of the same shall be provided by vendor to achieve redundant power supply to control system, + Fuses or circuit breakers shall be properly sized in accordance with NFPA 70 or appropriate authority and PLC manufacturer guidelines, so as to protect power supply and 1/0 circuits Breakers and fuse blocks shall be properly labelled in accordance with drawings and specifications. + Alloutput circuits shall be individually fused, ‘+ Interposing relays shall be used to switch loads exceeding the current rating of individual output circuits Al relays shall be continuously rated type and consume low power and shall have LED for status indication, + Control and alarm circuits shall be designed to be failsafe. In a normally energized circuit, any ‘Component failure or open circuit conductor, etc, shall induce an equipment fail-safe mode, + Equipment grounding and bonding shall be in accordance with NFPA 70 and/or appropriate local authorities, and manufacturer guid 6.17.18 Bypass Functions + The PLC shall be programmed to allow on-line maintenanceicalibration of sensors and end devices and to test functionality of logic without affecting the output. Operation of an input or output override shall actuate audible and visual alarm. The visual alarm shall be non-cancellable Unt the override is removed, 6.17.19 Software + Programming Sofware 2. Software shall be menu driven for ease of program development, troubleshooting, and modification b. Fully annotated program documentation shall be provided using system addresses and field tag numbers and network descriptive headers and narratives. Software shall allow on-line programming/modification for PLC. It shall be possible to make changes to applications software on-line. In addition, thorized modifications to installed software shall be restricted. This shall typically be by
