Materials
Copy of Above the Plain song
Guitar with Capo
Procedure
1. Teacher will model stepwise motion to the students and ask the students
to describe the relations of the notes.
2. Teacher will model Leaps with in the Major Triad and ask the Students to
describe the relation of the notes
3. Teacher will instruct the students on the difference between Stepwise
motion and Triadic leaps.
4. Teacher will model stepwise patterns and patterns with leaps in a major
triad and ask the students to identify whether a pattern was stepwise or a leap.
5. Teacher will Transition into Above the Plain.
Prompt: Today we are going to learn a song that uses both stepwise
motion and leaps. It goes like this
6. Teacher sings Above the Plain accompanied on Guitar
7. Students will echo the song in four bar phrases. After successfully doing
that the students will echo four bar phrase, then 8, then sing the whole song with
the teacher.
Prompt: Lets sing the whole song now
8. Students will sing the whole song by themselves after being given the
pitch by the instructor
Prompt: I bet you can sing this song without me
9. Students will sing Above the Plain by themselves and the teacher will
evaluate their performance.
Prompt: Im going to sing the song differently this time. After I finish could
you tell me what I did differently?
10. Students will keep a steady beat and listen as the instructor sings Above
The Plain with varying dynamic levels.
Question: What was different with the how I sung the song this time?
Prompt: Lets sing the song together and remember to change our
volume.
11. The teacher will lead the students in performing Above the Plain as a
round.

Assessment of Goals and Objectives
The teacher will assess the students and their knowledge of Stepwise Motion
and Triad Leaps by have the students answer whether the teacher model stepwise
motion or leaps.

The teacher will accompany himself on guitar.
