Topic Proposal

Geography is a topic that I am very interested on and I have read complex books and
scholar articles about something called Continental models. This is basically the way every
culture divides the world. According to the book The Myth of Continents by Lewis and
Weigen, there are four main continental models that will be explain throughout the project.
However, I intend to present a research question in order to make a complete communication
analysis on this topic. The research question would be: are continental models ideographs? To
answer this, we must look at McGees article found in Readings and Rhetorical Criticism (2005).

An ideograph is a word or phrase that is pregnant with ideological commitment. I will

focus on intertwining these two topics together and make my point through the understanding of
how continental models, are in fact, ideographs and how this affects our culture in a daily basis.
There will be two major implications: the first one, geographically and the second one,
rhetorically.

I understand that this is a complex topic and that my project needs to be very organized.
These topics are part of my passion and I would love to be able to discover them even further
than I already have. I believe there is something new to learn about the things one is passionate
about.
