Kaitlyn served as a student teacher in a first grade classroom at Bethel Elementary School in the spring of 2015. As a principal, one of the things | look for in a student teacher is someone who is a go getter. I like to observe all of the student teachers that come into my building. Miss Murphy approached me and asked if | would observe her. This speaks volumes about her drive and desire to improve as an educator. Miss Murphy has an excellent handle on lesson planning and classroom management. In the short time she spent at Bethel she developed an excellent rapport with her students. She has gained their respect, and most importantly, their trust. Miss Murphy was not viewed as a guest in the classroom, She was viewed as the teacher. I was very impressed to see Miss Murphy collecting student data while working with students. This is a skill that is overlooked by many student teachers. In addition to her teaching duties, Miss Murphy volunteered her own time to help her cooperating teacher with our after school Science Explorers program. Her commitment to go the extra mile is one of the many things that set Miss Murphy apart from other candidates.
