During and after lessons, I assess students knowledge of the

current skills being taught. In order to gauge the direction of the


next lesson or how to continue with the current lesson. I use a
variety of informal assessments.
The resource used to teach mathematics is Engage NY, a program
which includes an exit ticket for each lesson. The lesson is
designed to be issued to the students at the end of the lesson, to
determine each students knowledge of the lessons content. I use
the exit ticket after whole group instruction before students move
on to independent practice. Depending on the amount of students
who show an of understanding of the content, I will either pull a
small group for further instruction or continue with more whole
group guided practice. If further instruction is required in a small
group, the rest of the class will proceed to independent practice. I
find this practice works well. Rather than reviewing the
assessment results after students have completed the
independent practice. By issuing the exit ticket before
independent practice, I am able to direct the lesson in the need
direction to ensure students have a full understanding of content

before working independently.
