Educational Philosophy
My teaching goal is to provide students with a safe learning environment,
along with high- quality education. In order to do so, I will use the following
concepts:
o Positive Relationships: I will make personal relationships with all
students. Having these relationships will build trust and allow students
to feel safe in the classroom. I will also strive to make relationships
with parents. A strong home to school partnership provides the most
effective learning for students (Wentzel, 1998).
o Content Knowledge: I will be competent in academic content. To
have high quality instruction, I must have sophisticated professional
knowledge that goes beyond the curriculum (Ball, Thames & Phelps,
2008).
o Positive Classroom Structure/Management: Its my responsibility
to have a well-managed classroom, to provide an on-task learning
environment (Wong & Wong, 2001). A well-managed classroom
requires consistency. Having a daily routine gives students guidelines
on how to behave and learn.
o Using all Learning Styles: I will use all nine learning styles based on
Gardners Theory of Multiple Intelligence. Planning lessons that
incorporate all learning styles will allow instruction to be understood by
all students. Incorporating Gardners Theory, allows students to
strengthen all nine learning styles, instead of only practicing their
preferred style.
o Engaging Academic Instruction: Having fun lesson plans allow for
students to become more involved. Making lessons based on interests
of your students will capture their attention. As the teacher, I promise
to be always engaged too. Students are aware of teachers nonverbal
behaviors. If the teacher isnt excited about the lesson, you cant
expect the students to be excited to learn.
Providing the following concepts will allow for the most effective learning in
and out of the classroom. I hope to see all of my students grow intellectually
to eventually become successful working members of our society.
