Thave known Jim for the past seventeen years. In that time, Jim has been a valuable member of The Elizabeth W. Murphey School staff and administration. During his time with Murphey School, Jim as served as an intern, cottage houseparent, supervisor of cottage life for residents and staff, Independent Living Program Manager, and most recently Director of Programming, In ‘my capacity as the Family Reunification Specialist at The Murphey School and now as Jim’s Capstone Project Site Supervisor, I have had the privilege of working with him in all of the various positions he has held and believe the following characteristics stand out as strengths: © Fidelity ~ He is a great husband and father, ‘* Sense of Humor — He has a quick wit, and an ability to make others smile and lighten the ‘mood when needed. Attitude ~ He is always positive and enthusiastic no matter what the assignment. Flexibility ~ On any givon day, what started out as the plan/schedule may change. Jim's ability to adjust and support others with adjustments allows for smooth transitions with minimum disruptions for residents and staff * Savvy ~ An ability to see other people’s strengths and know how they might best serve the organization. + Trust Jim has developed many trusting relationships with both the youth and the staff. Jim’s door is open for all. He listens and when he tells you something, it matters. ‘What areas do you identify as needing more development for the student? As Jim continues his progress towards the goal of becoming the Executive Director of The Elizabeth W. Murphey School, it will be helpful to develop additional knowledge and skill for the day-to-day financial management of the school, Additional knowledge and skill will support the foundation of knowledge he already has and provide him with increased capability to work with the Board of Directors as he moves to develop and implement his vision and direction for the school’s next 25 years Finally, not that it needs further development, but one of the qualities I have most admired about Jim has been his ability to balance the demands of family, work, and his personal needs, As he moves forward, with the increased demands of an exceutive directorship, it will be important to work to maintain that sense of balance. As I stated in my letter of recommendation, Jim has earned my confidence and the confidence of the Murphey School,
