Aromac Chemistry Workshop

An understanding of chemistry, pharmacology and
toxicology allows us to work safely with aroma cs and
to more fully appreciate their safe role in therapeu cs
prac se.
To change the publics percep on of aromatherapy
from a smelly, touchy, feely massage to a scien fic
modality we need to demonstrate clinical skills and
have good scien fic understanding of how aroma c
cons tuents aect the mind and the body.
Mark addresses the chemical and pharmacological
science behind aroma c therapies - from aromatherapy to aroma c medicine.
With over a decade of teaching experience he adds a
direct, warm and humorous teaching style to his deep
knowledge which simplifies this complex subject area
and has helped hundreds of students develop a deeper understanding of aroma cs and appreciate just
why they do what they do.
During this intensive 2 day workshop Mark will use
aroma c samples to demonstrate the dierences between cons tuents. He will also illustrate quality differences between aroma cs for aroma c medicine
and those sold to the general public.
Be inspired to develop your aroma c senses of what
makes a good quality aroma c in a similar way to wine
apprecia on by expanding your aroma c memory.
Workshop Content:

Shikimic acid pathways, Terpene chemistry (Isoprene unit), Monoterpenes, Sesquiterpenes, Monoterpenols, Sesquiterpenols, Aldehydes, Esters,
Ketones,Oxides, Lactones, Phenols, Ethers & Coumarins. Isomers and Chirality, Pharmacology of essen al

Internal Dose Forms Workshop

Internal dose forms vary depending upon the type
of aroma c therapy being prac ced. While a sniy
s ck is a rela vely low risk dose form others such as
capsules or suppositories carry a perceived higher level of risk and prac oner responsibility.

During this workshop I will cover ALL internal dose

forms and when/where they are appropriate. The
workshop focus is upon the methods and procedures
to competently manufacture these medicines. Case
studies will be used throughout the workshop to illustrate the applica on of these dose forms.
This workshop is applicable to aroma c therapists,
herbalists and naturopaths who wish to prescribe aroma c internal dose forms.
Workshop Content:
Aromac Therapies - Learn about the dierent types
of aroma c therapies and the body interfaces used
within each.
Galenic Preparaons - What are the medicines
named a er Galen and how are they formulated?
Good Manufacturing Procedure (GMP) - an appropriate and common sensed approach needed for
safely manufacturing of the various internal dose
forms. Appropriate packaging, labeling, cos ng and
prescribing documenta on will be discussed.
Formulaon Calculaons - Complex concepts made
simple from drops to mls & mgs.
Capsule Formulaon - Discover the various types of
capsules, how they dier, when they are appropriate
and how they are manufactured. Learn how to manufacture on a clinic scale.
Suppository & Pessary Formulaon - the various excipients used along with a safe, simple and accurate
method of manufacture. Appropriate dose loading
for each size will also be discussed.
Oral Liquids - dierent types of oral liquid dose
forms, their applica on and manufacture. From syrups to delicious aroma c beverages!
Inhalaon & Respiratory Dose Forms - From sniy
s cks to deep lung nebulisers we look at the various
dosing forms for both the upper & lower respiratory
tracts and detail when each is appropriate. We shall
also look at the available excipients including surfactants and emulsifiers and why drop size ma ers in
dosing.
Outcomes
Understand the various internal dose forms and
the excipients used for each.
Understand the methods and simple calcula on
that need to be applied to the formula on of
internal dose forms.
Discover when each internal dose form is appropriate and for what type of diseases or condi ons
each is best suited.
