AfterresizingtheHDTVdesktop,thenewcustomresolutioncreatedisnowaddedtothe
listofavailableresolutionsforthatdisplay,andalsoaddedtotheresolutionlistwithin
thegameorapplication.
InRelease190andlaterdrivers,themethodforresizingtheHDTVdesktophaschanged
toprovidebetterimagequalitywhenapplyingunderscan.Thismethodresultsinanew
customresolutionbeingcreatedwhichneedstobeselectedfromgamesorapplicationsto
applytheresizing.
Intheexampledisplayedinthefollowingscreenshot,theunderscanhascreatedanew
resolution(1216x682).Althoughthisresolutionlooksdifferent,itisstillinHDformat.

Positioning
Problem
IntheWindowsDisplayProperties>Settingstab,thesecondarymonitorscannotbe
positioneddirectlyabovemonitor#1withoutsnappinghorizontallytoaposition
diagonaltomonitor#1.
WhentheProblemOccurs
Theproblemoccurswhenfourmonitorsareconnectedtothegraphicsadaptercard,
butonlytwoofthemareenabled.
CauseandWorkaround
ThisisaMicrosoftnotanNVIDIAbug,andthereisnoworkaroundtocorrectthe
positioningofthemonitoricons.However,theactualpositioningofthedisplayson
thedesktopcanbecorrectedusingthenViewDesktopManagerwindowasfollows:
a UndertheToolstabintheDesktopManagerwindows,makesureAutomatically
AlignDisplaysischecked.
b IntheSettingstab,positiontheappropriatemonitoriconabovemonitor#1,then
clickApply.
Themousecursormovementbetweenmonitordesktopswillcorrespondtoa
verticalorientationofthemonitors,eventhoughthemonitoriconsintheSettings
tabarediagonaltoeachother.
Note: This will be the case even if the monitor icons are deliberately
positioned diagonal to each other.
Antialiasing Problems With Certain Applications

AntialiasingintheNVIDIADirect3Ddriverrequireseachnewframetoberenderedfrom
scratch.Thisrequirementadverselyaffectsapplicationsthatrenderonlythatportionof
thecontentthathaschangedsincethelastframe.Acommonsymptomofthisproblemis
geometricstructuresthatincorrectlydisappearandreappearasthesceneshifts.

Poor Quality S-Video Output on Some TVs

NVIDIAdriversdifferentiateanSvideoTVfromacompositeTVbysearchingfor75
Ohmloadsonthechrominanceandluminancelines.Ifthedriverdetectsonlyonesuch
load,itassumesthatithasacompositeTVanddrivesbothchromaandlumaontothat
line.ThisapproachallowsbothtypesofTVtodisplayincolor.
Unfortunately,someSvideoTVsdonotapplythecorrectloadtobothlines,causingthe
drivertodetectanSvideoTVasacomposite.Thedriver,inturn,sendsthelowerquality
signaltotheSvideoTV.Toworkaroundthisproblem,usetheControlPaneltooverride
theAutoselectfeature.Thiscanbedonefollowingthesesteps:
1 IntheSettingstaboftheDisplayPropertiesControlPanel,clickAdvanced.
2 InthenViewtab,clickDeviceSettingsandclickSelectOutputDevice.
3 IntheDeviceSelectiontab,clicktheTVoption.
4 ChangetheVideooutputformattoSvideo.
AGP and PCI-E Programs May Hang With AMD K7 and K8

Processors
Issue
MicrosoftWindows2000andWindowsXPsystemsusingAMDK7andK8
processorscanhangwhenanAGPorPCIEprogramisused.
RootCause
ThereisaknownproblemwithMicrosoftWindows2000andWindowsXP
systemsusingAMDK7andK8CPUsthatresultsintheMicrosoftoperatingsystem
allocatingoverlapping4Mcachedpageswith4kwritecombinedpages.This
conditionresultsinundefinedbehavioranddatacorruption,andisexplicitly
disallowedbytheAMDCPUmanual.
Thisproblemcanaffectanydevicedriverinthesystemthatallocateswritecombined
systemmemory,butisusuallymosteasilyreproducedwithgraphicsdriverssince
graphicsdriversgenerallymakeheavyuseofwritecombinedsystemmemoryfor
performancereasons.
Resolution
Microsofthasaknowledgebasearticleontheissue,thetextofwhichisunfortunately
quiteoutdated.WhilethearticleonlymentionsWindows2000,AGP,andK7,boththe
rootcauseandresolutionalsoapplytoWindows2000orWindowsXP,AGPorPCIE,
andAMDK7orK8.Thearticlecanbefoundathttp://support.microsoft.com/

Theissueisresolvedbyapplyinganoperatingsystemregistrykeyasdescribedinthe
referencedarticlethatinstructstheMicrosoftoperatingsystemtonotusethe4M
pages,thusavoidingtheconflict.

TheregistrykeyisautomaticallyappliedbyinstallationofthelatestNVIDIAnForce
platformdriverpackage(including4.57SMBUSorlater).Itisimperativeforthe

graphicsdriveroranyotherdevicedriversareinstalled.Theregistrykeytakeseffect
onlyafteranoperatingsystemreboot.
Desktop Manager Does Not Re-Center Logon Screen

OnWindowsXPmultidisplaysystemsthataresettonViewSpanmode,theWindows
logonscreeniscenteredontheextendeddesktop.Thisusuallycausesittobesplitacross
twodisplays,whichusersmayfindannoying.Althoughuserscannormallyusethe
DesktopManagertorestrictawindowsappearancetoonedisplay,securityrestrictions
