Different Types of Energy

Kinetic
-Kinetic Energy
is
an
expression
Energy
of the fact that a moving object
can do work on anything it hits.
It quantifies the amount of work
the object could do as a result of
its motion.

Potential
-Potential
energy is the energy
Energy
that an object has due to its
position in a force field or that a
system has due to the
configuration of its parts.

Chemical
-Chemical energy is the potential
Energy
of a chemical
substance to
undergo a transformation through
a chemical reaction or to
transform other chemical
substances.

Thermal
-ThermalEnergy
energy is the energy a

substance or system has related to its

temperature, the energy of moving or
vibrating molecules. (Atoms and
molecules, the smallest particles of
any substance, are always in motion).

Conclusion
Our hypothesis was wrong, and we thought if heat going into a
warmer temperature that the heat would transfer faster. Dering
the lab we took notice that it took longer time to get warm water
to stabilize, and cold water does the opposite.

Plan your Investigation

1. How does the transfer of heat get affected if it is in warm

temperature?
2. If heat goes into a warmer temperature, then the heat will
transfer faster.
3. We predicted that our hypothesis would be correct
4. Independent variable: temperature
5. Dependent variable: time
6. Constant variable: amount of water
7. Materials: 1 hot plate, 4 beakers (2 250mL and 2 100mL), 1
thermometer, and 1 timer.
8. Safety: use goggles, apron, and follow instructions
