Box 4004 + Eau Claire, WI 54702-4004 April 27, 2015 Dear Selection Committee: The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) on our campus has been highly successful and offers ‘students amazing benefits. They are applying for the NSCS Platinum Award and | would like to sut this letter of support for the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire chapter. | am the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and am proud of the 270+ student clubs and organizations on our campus. The NSCS stands out for me as extraordinary because of the contributions they have made to our campus and our ‘community. Ihave been very impressed with the level of service events that the chapter offered to their ‘membership this year including: Better World Books Book Drive, the Jared Box Project-providing care packages for kids at Sacred Heart Hospital, Special Olympics, Empty Bowls Event for the Feed My People Food Bank and many others. In my mind, an organization that emphasizes service to others in the world is one that | believe teaches our students lessons that will last them a lifetime. It is my hope that the ‘members will embrace what it means to be servant leaders and to contribute to the greater good, and ot just those initiatives that directly benefit themselves. | can also see that our chapter has emphasized scholarship and being well rounded. Students who study hard and work hard also need the opportunity to have social interactions as well in order to be well rounded and also unplugged from their technology for at least a short amount of time. The officers have provided a number of events designed to bring the members together, to build a sense of belonging and encourage community. The events I've seen range from dinners, game nights, holiday events, movies, bowling and team trivia, to name a few. 1am happy to note that the members of the honorary also promote scholarship and to encourage others to do well academically. In this very tough financial climate, the group has raised enough funds to provide 10 scholarships to its membership as well as promote practical study tips for students around campus.
