TCHS students excel at State SkillsUSA contest

Its important for our country to have a skilled workforce. Texas City High School has several programs ratings and 11
students received excellent ratings for their projects. In addition, students participated in individual skills competitions
where 10 students placed.
Architectural drafting is taught by Lindsay Owens. Weldon Hall placed ninth in architectural drafting skills. Aaron Day,
Clint Fuller, Von Hall, Justyn Hernandez and Eleazar Salazar all earned Superior ribbons for their projects. Marisa
Bergeron, Mathew Harrison and David Sanchez earned Excellent ribbons.
Sharnnetta Goins is in her first year teaching cosmetology at Texas City High School. Jennifer Juarez placed seventh in
the aesthetics competition. Superior ribbons were earned by Casandra Acosta, Chrishana Faison, Estepfani Guevara,
Brenda Guzman-Deleon, Maria Martinez, Stephanie Ramirez, Alexus Buckley and Marissa Sifuentes. Excellent ribbons
were earned by Kiffrey Beard, Amia Bellard, Cathy Cruses, Maya Terrazas and Jamie Tucker.
This was the first year for TCHS students to compete in engineering/robotics. These students are taught by James Jobe.
Lucas Eaton placed 9th and Morgan Harper placed 17th in related technical math. Avery Brundrett and Tyler Coston
placed 8th and Victor Garms and Hannah Rose placed 12th in robotics urban search and rescue (teams). Clemente De los
Santos and Mathew Jecker placed 12th in mobile robotics technology (teams). Morgan Harper and Samantha Howard
each earned superior ribbons for their projects.
Forensic science is taught by Abigail Davalos. Estepfani Guevara placed 18th in job skills. The following students earned
superior ribbons for their projects: Casandra Acosta, Hanna Ashworth, Harley Askew-Garcia, Alisha Barbin, Allen
Bjerke, Tyler Brown, Alexus Buckley, Adrianne Burton, Jonas Calhoun, Alexandra Cuello, Devious Ellisor, JaCorey
Fennell, Monica Fernandez, Brenda Guzman, April Hawthorne, Oshiana Mull, Summer Phillips, Kierra Sam and Kindle
Sampson. Earning excellent ribbons were Kassandra Cuello, Miguel Martinez and Erica Welch.
Five welding projects earned superior ribbons at state: Carter Cole and Victor Velas taco bike; Kyle Bembers luggage
rack; Brett Gaudet and Nicholas Pandanells fishing wagon; Saul Aviles, Alonzo Cruses Rojas and Gabriel Simpsons
table grill; and Trey Frohnes tow hook. Welding is taught by Shawn Trader.
Our students benefit greatly from our CTE programs. The students are able to associate schoolwork with real work. Our
teachers and these competitions emphasize respect for the dignity of work, high standards in trade ethics, superior
workmanship, quality and safety. They are well-prepared for their future.
