Special Days ( History Year Three)

Learning intentions:

Identifying events that are special to different Australians.


Write about an event special to you, including when the event occurs, what you do,
who you share it with and where it is celebrated.

Part A: Special days
You will be introduced to five different young Australians, who tell you
about an event that is special to them. These events are: Chinese New
Year, Easter, ANZAC Day, Diwali and Thanksgiving.
Part B: Write about an event that is special to you
You will write about your own special day or event. You are given some
questions to help you form a response.
Once the module is complete begin researching an event from the following
list:
Australia day, ANZAC Day, NAIDOC Week, Melbourne Cup Day, Sorry
Day, Harmony Day, Valentines Day, the Queens Birthday, Christmas,
Easter, Chinese New Year, Diwali, Hanukkah, Ramadan, Buddha Day,
the Moon Festival, St Patricks Day, the Doll Festival, Mothers/Fathers
Day, Papua New Guinea Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Mahatma
Gandhis Birthday, Bastille Day, Carnival, Waitangi Day, South
African Freedom Day, Guy Fawkes Day, Remembrance Day,
International Womens Day and German Unity Day.
Have a discussion with the person beside you about:
How and why do people choose to remember significant events of the past?
