Dear Administrator,
Itis with great pleasure that I submit this letter of recommendation on behalf of Mary
Hartranft. Thave worked with Mary in her literacy methods classes and supervised her
fieldwork. She demonstrated competency in all areas of her student teaching
experiences. Mary has an enviable combination of academic strength and practical
competency.
Mary’s mature understanding of many aspects of child development strengthens her
ability to plan student-centered instruction. She is a highly organized teacher who
carefully plans instruction and prepares instructional materials to produce lessons with a
high level of student engagement. She consistently checks for student understanding,
‘monitors and acts upon problems as they arise, and adjusts instruction to meet student
needs. The result is instruction with positive learning outcomes.
Mary’s co-concentration in sociology: family studies has strengthened her understanding
of the cultural and family structures that affect learning. Mary relates very well to her
students. She establishes a positive learning environment with high leaning and
behavioral expectations for all of her students. She has an energetic and optimistic style
of teaching. She provides structure for her students in a manner that produces a well-
managed classroom with an emphasis on teaching the students to be responsible for their
own work, behavior, and possessions.
A reflective practitioner, Mary consistently self-evaluates her instruction and seeks
feedback in order to make improvements. She is a team player who interacts
professionally with school personnel. I recommend her for a teaching position without
reservation. Please contact me if you would like to further discuss her qualifications.
