I am pleased to write this letter of recommendation on behalf of Shelby Paro. Shelby is currently
attending SUNY Canton studying Early Childhood. She will be graduating in May 9, 2015, receiving an
Associates of Science Degree in Early Childhood Studies. I have had the pleasure of working with
Shelby, serving as her primary instructor and academic advisor.
Shelby is a highly responsible and mature student. She has a solid understanding of child
development. It is quite evident that she has a passion for working with children; she consistently
demonstrates an awareness of developmentally appropriate practice and an understanding of the
whole-child, curriculum standards, professionalism, and program planning.
Shelby is a respectful and compassionate individual. Through in class activities, reflective writing
assignments, and projects, she has demonstrated growth, interest in, and an understanding of
teaching. Through her coursework Shelby has practiced curriculum planning methods, lesson plan
writing and implementation, and behavior management techniques.
Shelby is a dependable and conscientious student. I am very impressed with her work ethic and
academic achievements. Shelby is an active member in the SUNY Canton Early Childhood Student
Club; attending many on and off campus volunteer events. I have observed her working with young
children and am very impressed with her ability to relate to and engage with each.
