Dear Mr. & Mrs. Smith:
My name is Jessy Rodenkirk. This year I will have the pleasure of teaching your child,
Susie Smith, in eighth grade science and engineering. I very much look forward to the
opportunity to help Susie unlock her curiosity in these courses as well as help her build a
strong foundation of success.
I am a recent graduate of Arizona State University. However, I have extensive experience
managing a classroom through my participation in the SUNS Central iTeach AZ senior
year residency at Central High School. SUNS Central provides ASU students with
ongoing professional development and onsite mentoring for an entire school year.
In addition to my experience through SUNS Central, I am also a recipient of the SEED
Grant for STEM teachers. This grant has given me the opportunity to attend extensive
professional development dealing specifically with the implementation of STEM
investigations in the classroom. For this reason, my classroom will be a classroom of
learning, investigation and discovery for your child.
As a science and engineering teacher committed to STEM, it is my goal and my hope to
inspire a life-long curiosity in the natural world and the ways in which we, as humans,
can leave the Earth a better place than we found it. It is also my hope to impart an
unshakeable confidence in the abilities and interests of Susie and the rest of my class: that
they might feel empowered and self-confident in their unique abilities.
I strongly believe that parents, students and teachers form an invaluable team that aids in
the success of the student. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any concerns or
questions about Susie or the expectations for science and engineering this school year. I
can be reached at (602) 555-5555 or email@email.com.
Thank you,
Jessica Rodenkirk
