Chapter 23 Electric Fields

Problem Assignment (1)
Solve the following Problems.
1

Two identical conducting small spheres are placed with their centers 0.300 m
apart. One is given a charge of 12.0 nC and the other a charge of 18.0
nC. Find the magnitude of the electric force exerted by one sphere on the
other.

Three point charges are located at the corners of an equilateral triangle as shown
in Figure below. Calculate the resultant electric force on the 7.00 C charge.

Two small beads having positive charges 3q and q are fixed at the opposite
ends of a horizontal, insulating rod, extending from the origin to the
point x = d. As shown in Figure below, a third small charged bead is free
to slide on the rod. At what position is the third bead in equilibrium?

Four identical point charges (q = +10.0 C) are located on the corners of a

rectangle as shown in Figure below. The dimensions of the rectangle are L =
60.0 cm and W = 15.0 cm. Calculate the magnitude and direction of the
resultant electric force exerted on the charge at the lower left corner by the
other three charges.
