Discussion 2
Step 1: Two different genres discussed in Chapter 3 are Abstracts and Annotated Bibliography.
An abstract is sort of a detailed summary that acts as overviews or previews to the reader. An
abstract can range from a paragraph to a page in length. An abstract is not just a simple
description but also points out the key arguments of the text. Annotated bibliography give
comprehensive information on a broad topic and simply put, they bring together information
from different sources and provide a brief abstract for each. So an annotated bibliography has 3
parts: A list of entries with citation; a brief abstract for the sources; a statement on the quality of
the source.
Step 2: Three characteristics that make Annotated Bibliography on Shakespeares Hamlet and
Popular Culture. It includes a citation of sources which is one characteristic followed by a brief
abstract and a statement on the quality of the sources for each making the second and third
characteristics.
The main distinction between annotated bibliographies and the other writings is the inclusion of
sources with a description of the sources. I can see myself using this genre and I have actually
used it before. I take courses in which research is essential and some form of annotated
bibliography is used.

My preferable genre is a journal because it is a great way of constantly updating my thoughts. I

feel that it is truly my work without much influence and it can really be about anything.
