College Magazine: denotations and

connotations
Masthead:
COLLEGE is the name and title of this magazine. Its proposition has been
placed centre top of the frame. The font colour is red; this indicates an
American culture not only from the information but also the college is in
fact situated in the United States.
The font style is bold and capitalised which I believe resembles the type of
lettering you might see on an American football team.
Cover Lines:
The five cover lines are positioned on either side of the magazine cover
page, displayed in bold font showing a variation of two colours, blue and
black. The blue refers back to the side bar of the bar code and perhaps
the blue ion the girls shorts. Red and blue are quite common American
colours as they are part of the colour scheme in the American flag. The
titles are all in capitals as well.
Main Cover Image
The main cover image is of a young, female student obviously studying at
college. She reveals her passion for her college as she is wearing a
merchandise t-shirt. The t-shirt is red connecting back in with the title
colour on the magazine. Shes smiling and giving direct mode of address,
drawing the attention in on her and what she has to say. She stands
centre of the frame, standing slanted opposed to straight forward and is
looking comfortable. They need the image to look appealing and healthy
to show that their students are happy to be there.
Summary
Overall this college magazine sells its USP with colour, direct mode of
attention and its use of cover lines. They address the right target audience
especially by using a female who may attend the college. If they were to
use someone younger then it would have a different appeal to the wrong
target audience.
