To my audience: In planning my paper, I came across certain difficulties and
obstacles with the idea. I noticed that my topic, War, is extremely vague, but I
wanted to write about it. I decided to go to the question, Will it ever end? In my
writing, I realized that the definition of war is not a concrete definition that is
some of the definition is left to judgment. With that being said, this paper will be a
bit of a challenge, but I am both willing and looking forward to facing it.

War: The Endless Game

War is interesting. Humans, and only humans, with the same views gather and fight other
groups of humans for their differences. We do it for power, recognition, respect, and fear. Thats
the way humans behave, its the way we always have, and we have all gotten used to it. But for a
second, pretend youre not human. Pretend youre a bird, simply following the natural order,
looking down at a battle field. All of a sudden, it seems so stupid. Why are these people killing
each other? What will they gain?
For my Writing class Inquiry Project, I decided to write on the topic of Can there ever be
world peace, in other words, can there be the absence of war. Human nature has never failed
to fascinate me. The reason I am asking this question is because it interests me. I have often
thought about war and what it does to people, who happen to be the reason for it and the
founders of it. Its interesting that only humans engage in conventional war. Maybe that is
because we have the power to.

This question arose from my deduction that people can be naturally good. Take the
Native Americans; when Christopher Columbus first touched the Americas, people were running
up and willing to share everything they had with him and his crew. Instead of graciously
accepting everything they had to offer, Columbus enslaved everyone. He forced them to take him
to the source of their treasures and used them for labor. This got me wondering if people could be
at peace with one another. This question in itself rose many others, ones with no real answers.
Will the burden of history always hang over us in times of peace, pushing us towards hatred?
Why does having a common enemy bring people closer together? Will one wars lasting
presence cause the dawn of the next? All these questions flooded into my head, and I want to
address them.
I think this topic is one everyone should look into. It provides insight into the nature of
human beings and explains so much. War brings out the best and the worst in people, and in
times of war, not only do peoples true colors tend to show, but war is one of the only times. I
think it is a topic that everyone should be interested in, including my classmates, which is
another reason I would like to write about it.
In my paper, I want to address as much about war as I can. With all the information I
gather, I can arrive at conclusions that may help lean one way or another. A big one would be the
cause of war. If I can find the root, I can understand why it happens. Something else I will have
to decide and declare will be the meaning of war. It could be minor disputes or nations fighting
one another for land. I would have to address one, and only one, of these definitions for my
paper, as others could yield different results.
I hope the outcome of the paper will be closure on the topic after looking into many
different viewpoints. A bit of a dilemma in the debate I came across is that it only takes one

person to break peace. But that is a matter of opinion depending on how you define war. I am
looking forward to writing about it and I hope my audience enjoys it.
