The role of the teacher

MANAGER
Involves managing activities in intervals throughout the class
period. For example, when giving instructions and providing the
framework for students.
PROMTER
Involves managing activities in intervals throughout the class
period. For example, when giving instructions and providing the
framework for students.
MONITOR/OBSERVER
Observe what the pupils do especially in oral communicative
activities to be able to give them useful feedback.
We need to be able to work and observe simultaneously,
listening, watching, and absorbing.
Not only in order to give feedback, but also to judge the
success of the different materials and activities we take into
the lessons, so we can make necessary changes in the future.
FACILITATOR
With this role, the teacher creates all the conditions to make
students learn.
You can accomplish this by enacting group and pair work
exercises within the classroom and essentially dancing around
the classroom from group to group. This is the stage of more
listening rather than instructing.
Allow the students to experiment with English with minimal
correction.

TUTOR
Working with individuals or small groups, combining the roles
of prompter and resource.

More personal contact gives the learners a real chance to feel

supported and helped. Positive for the general class
atmosphere! NB: Important to see and give guidance to as
many groups/individuals as possible.
LANGUAGE RESOURCE
Apart from the different roles and how they are performed, we
are a kind of teaching aid ourselves. We mime and gesture,
we are the most important language models and we provide
meaningful input.
ASSESSOR
Being an assessor means you will correct errors only when
necessary and provide feedback to students on tasks.
Assessing students is important and can be done most
effectively in an impersonal way through testing, assigning
grades, and recommending English level.
Giving feedback during class time may be best during pair
work or group work activities as you are not calling out the
student in front of the entire class.

Rapport builder
It involves recognizing, listening to, respecting and being
even-handed with students, in a professional manner.
CONTROLLER
At the start of class you need to set the agenda and introduce
new material by acting as a controller. This period of time is
usually held at the start of class and during the initial
presentation of material. It should be a limited role only used
for the initial startup.
