Lesson 2: Real World Pythagorean Theorem


EQ:
What structures today are created using the Pythagorean Theorem and how do they compare to
structures built in Ancient Greece?
Opening:
-Students will view different real life examples of the Pythagorean Theorem, using:

Work Session:
1. Students will search for a picture of a structure built in Ancient Greece.
2. Students will go outside and search for examples of right triangles (playground slides,
architecture, ladders, etc.). After finding at least one example, they will take a picture of it
on their own device or a school iPad.
3. Students will create a Pic Stitch to compare what parts of current buildings are similar to
the ones built many years ago.
4. Students will type an explanation comparing the two pictures using the memo or notepad
application.
5. The final project will be emailed to teachers email address.

-Personal device or school iPad, Pic Stich and Memo (Notepad) Applications
Assessment:
Teacher will grade the 21st Century Venn Diagram by the following rubric:
